En el pasado, existieron culturas, civilizaciones que sobrepasaban la nuestra, y desaparecieron a causa de la preponderancia dada al intelecto en detrimento del corazón; porque el intelecto empuja siempre a los humanos hacia el camino del egoísmo, de la dominación, de la injusticia, de la esclavitud de los seres y de la naturaleza. Y si nuestra humanidad continúa por este camino, si nada viene a equilibrar las fuerzas destructivas cada vez más evidentes, también desaparecerá...
El intelecto en sí mismo no tiene preocupación moral alguna: busca, encuentra, inventa, acumula, combina, sin preocuparse de la forma en la que sus inventos serán utilizados. Así es como, gracias a sus facultades intelectuales, los investigadores han puesto a disposición de los humanos medios técnicos extremadamente peligrosos, sin preguntarse para qué finalidades los utilizarían. Porque si el intelecto es el padre de los inventos, también lo es de sus utilizaciones. Cuando los primeros químicos empezaron a aislar el gas... acaso imaginaron que otros tendrían la idea de utilizarlo para aniquilar millones de personas? Sólo el corazón puede remediar los efectos maléficos del intelecto. Asi es que si frente al intelecto el corazón no ocupa el lugar que debe ser el suyo, eso será la perdición de la humanidad...

The intellect is not of itself concerned with morality. It seeks, finds, invents, constructs, puts together, without any concern for how its inventions will be used. And so, by using their intellectual faculties, researchers have put highly dangerous technical resources at humanity’s disposal without questioning the ends to which they would be used. For if the intellect is the father of invention, it also governs how things are utilized. When the first chemists began to isolate gasses, did they imagine that others would think of using them to destroy millions of people? Only the heart can remedy the harmful effects of the mind. If the heart does not take its rightful place alongside the mind, it will be the ruin of humankind. In the past, cultures and civilizations surpassing our own disappeared, because they favoured the mind over the heart. For the mind always encourages humans to follow the path of selfishness, domination, injustice and the subjugation of beings and of nature. And if humankind continues on this path, if nothing comes to balance the increasingly active forces of destruction, it too will disappear.

Ибо интеллект всегда толкает людей на путь эгоизма, несправедливости, порабощения людей и природы, господства над другими. И если современное человечество продолжит этот путь, если ничто не уравновесит все более и более проявляющиеся деструктивные силы, оно тоже исчезнет
